There is a three way triangle between text, audience and producer. Does the producer influence the audience or does an audience influence the producer.
In the case of my film, as I decided to make it neiche and artistic, I wanted the audience to be influenced by me and not the other way around for I had a message I wanted to get across.
- Hypodermic Needle Theory
Audiences passively recieve ideology transmitted via a media text
Uses and Gratifications- Blumer and Katz
Audience use media texts for diversion, personal relationships, personal identity and surveillance

Representation
Representation means the way images are contructed to create meaning
All texts are encoded with meanings, which we as an audience decode.
Denontation: What we can see
Connotation: What it means beneath the image
Lippman: Sterotypes are a shortcut used by the media and are usually negative based on age, gender, sexuality, race and ethnicity
Semiotics: Ideology. This is when the directors/producers encode certain believes into the text.
Realism is a form of holding a mirror to the real world. How much realism does Curtain Call have?
Intertexuality: When one text refers to another
Representation to apply to Curtain Call
My film is full of encoded meaning
It relies on the audience seeing meaning and behind the obvious
It does reflect the harsh realism of everyday life
